TROOP TANAUAN SHORES AS
3RD
NATIONAL SKIMBOARDING COMPETITION REELS OFF |
Thousands
of people from all over the country flocked
the shorelines of Tanauan, Leyte on Easter Sunday
not only to enjoy the clean beaches which is
the custom of Filipino families, but also to
watch the opening of the 3rd National Skimboarding
Competition at the Bantay Dagat area.

For
the 3rd consecutive year, the coastal municipality
of Tanauan , Leyte is hosting the National Skimboarding
Competition right where skimboarding in the
Philippines was born in the year 2000.
About 150 skim riders from Luzon, Visayas and
Mindanao have registered in this year’s
tilt. At stake are three categories, the open,
the groumet and the women category which is
being held for the first time.

Among
the contestants, one has become the favorite not
only of the media but also of the crowd. He is
Henrick Vargas better known as Hapon who is only
six years old. Early favorite in the Women Category
is a petite local lass Sheryl Pajellano who is
leading 9 other women riders. Being watched, too,
is the lone Singaporean rider, Arthur Khor.

to be excluded is the defending champion, Porac
Espada, who is from Tanauan, Leyte . No less than
the officers of the Philippine Skimboarding Association
are managing the competition.
Tanauan Mayor, Atty. Roque Tiu welcomed the guests
and the participants with a promise that the municipality
of Tanauan will continue to make the annual skimboarding
competition bigger and better every year especially
with the continued support of Governor Petilla,
Congresswoman Petilla and the sponsors.

He
bared, and Governor Petilla confirmed the plan
to develop the whole Bantay Dagat area to be the
venue of skimboarding competitions and other activities
the whole year round.
Mayor
Tiu expressed hope that Tanauan will continue
to draw more tourists and watersports enthusiasts
via Skimboarding.

The
colorful opening program which featured the Assumption
Academy Dance Ensemble, was graced by no less
than Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla, Atty.
Martin Romualdez, Mr. Dominic Petilla who represented
Congresswoman Remedios L. Petilla, Gameplan host
Paulo Soler, Mr. Monet Castillo of Victoria Skimboards
of Laguna Beach, California who is one of the
sponsors, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
Region 8 Director Ernesto Hilvano and PIA 8 Director
Olive Tiu, among others. |
Festive
mood pervades not only in the whole two-hectare
Bantay Dagat Area in Tanauan but also in the
whole stretch of the shorelineS covering Barangays
San Roque, Santo Nino, Cabuynan and Bislig.
