With
less than a month before her term as the Representative
of the First District of Leyte, expires, Congresswoman
Remedios Loreto Petilla, after all that she has accomplished,
still finds time to continue to work for the good
of the people of her District and the province of
Leyte as a whole.
This is her trademark that earned her respect and
admiration of fellow leaders and her constituents.
Congresswoman Petilla has become a role model and
her charm, wit and candor brought a refreshing vitality
to public life in the Eastern Visayas Region. Last
week, she was in Tanauan, Leyte where she is considered
a friend, an advisor and an inspiration, to inaugurate
the Tanauan Tourism and Information Center at the
Embarkadero Square where most national agencies in
the municipality are located.
That same day, Congresswoman Petilla, a beautiful
lady and one of the most gifted politicians Region
8 ever saw, distributed sphygmomanometers to all the
54 Tanauan barangays during the General Assembly of
the Barangay Health Workers of the Municipality, a
part of her advocacy that health programs should be
given focus and attention considering that most of
the barangays are located in interior areas, and that
the health of the people is the measure of a healthy
municipality.
During her speech, she assured the people of Tanauan
that she will continue to help Tanauan in one way
or the other, considering that Tanauan through Mayor
Roque Tiu, is the only municipality in the district
which stood up for her during her political struggle.
These
activities in Tanauan are aside from her activities
in the other municipalities of the first district
and her hectic schedule as chairman of the forthcoming
Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival in connection with the
forthcoming feast of the Senor Santo Nino. She has
always been a dedicated leader with as much passion
and wit as anyone has ever seen. Her enthusiasm, humor
and commitment to the people of Leyte guides her work
as a public servant.
Congresswoman
Petilla is indeed, the epitome of Leyte politics:
a figure larger than life who has a gift of captivating
the public with her great wit and humor. She paved
the way as a leader and a role model for women who
aspire to make it to the highest levels of leadership.
This
writer thinks that Congresswoman Petilla brought an
openness, a willingness to have all sides heard on
things, to bring in a lot of groups and interests
that had not been heard before, and had not had a
chance to participate before.
What she unknowingly did for Leyte, is setting a very
high standard of public service to the community especially
to the barangays which she empowered by directly entrusting
into them the funds for barangay projects.
Congresswoman
Petilla knows the real meaning of public service and
her dedication to empowering others has always been
evident during her entire political career. She is
a trailblazer and a real treasure and people of all
political persuasions know that she can still do a
lot not only for Leyte, for Eastern Visayas, but for
the entire country.
