VISITS TANAUAN, LEYTE |
Tanauan, Leyte (March 6) -- After the successful visit of the German Ambassador to Leyte, another top official of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Dr. Joseph Fullenbach, is scheduled to visit the province on March 10 -11, 2009. |
Dr. Josef Fullenbac who is the head of Asia and Southeast Asia Division of the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) will be accompanied by Philipp Quitmann, Country Manager, GTZ Head Office in Eschborn, Germany, and Dr. Walter Salzer, Program Manager, GTZ-EnRD. Ms. Cecilia Quicho-Astilla, Adviser of the GTZ Environment and Rural Development Program, informed that the visit intends to acquaint the German Federal Ministry official and his party on the GTZ programs and projects implementation in Leyte. |

Among the places Dr. Fullenbach and his party will visit, is the Municipality of Tanauan. The visitors will be in Tanauan on March 10, 2009 at 2:30 in the afternoon.
The visitors will visit Tanauan on March 10, 2009 at 2:30 in the afternoon, where Dr. Fullenbach and his party will be briefed on Land Use Based Barangay Development Planning, a process linking barangay development to the municipal comprehensive development plan.
The visitors will go to the Tanauan Municipal Hall to meet the Honorable Mayor Roque A. Tiu and from there they will proceed to Barangay Magay for a site visit as the barangay is the last host of the cluster of Barangays in the 8th district of Tanauan.
The ongoing activities during the visit are defining 5 year barangay development plan matrix and the LUB-BDP Corner. |

Dr. Fullenbach will see the result of the PRA and thematic mapping that have been done in the cluster of three barangays, by the members of Barangay Development Councils, Sangguniang Barangay, Barangay volunteers, sectoral representatives and other community leaders.
Based on these, Dr. Fullenbach would witness how the interventions expressed in the programs, plans and activities, will be prioritized by the community.

The briefer given by GTZ to Dr. Fullenbach stated that the Municipality of Tanauan is composed of 9 districts with each district consisting of six barangays. The replication of the LUBBDP is now on the 8th district.
Of late, Tanauan has been cited for having twice named on a nationwide search, as the Most Business Friendly LGU of the Philippines, Best Municipal Website of Region 8 and recently, Most Client-Friendly Municipal Hall.
Of the 41 towns of Leyte, Tanauan is one of the few that has an approved Comprehensive Land Use Plan and accompanying Zoning Ordinance.
It also boast itself as the skimboarding capital of the Philippines, home to one bottling company and two large coconut mills in the province.
Tanauan's economy is agriculture and fisheries, followed by trade and services, driven.
Mayor Roque Tiu who is on his last term was the very first Local Chief Executive who implemented the Land Use Based Barangay Development Planning, hoping that in his term, he would be able to update the Municipal Comprehensive Land Use Plan without the usual dependency on consultants. (PIA 8) |
