Tanauan, Leyte (August 11) -- The 15-day activities leading to the commemoration of the Feast of Our Lady of Assumption and Tanauan Day on August 15, has been on- going since August 1, 2009, Mayor Roque Tiu of Tanauan, Leyte.
The activities have been packaged into what is called Pasaka festivities which include nightly cultural shows, sports activities, agri trade fairs, competitions, childrens festival, gift giving, and investment forum. All these are set through the collective efforts of all the various sectors from the local government unit, the academe, the non government organizations, the elderly, the youth and the children, including the religious groups.
Mayor Tiu said that all these activities showcase the solidarity of the people of Tanauan and are focused on paying homage and giving thanks to the Lord Almighty thru the beloved Patroness, for all the blessings received through the years.
Mayor Roque A. Tiu disclosed that this year's festivities has been made more meaningful with the coming home of the Hermana Mayor and her family in order to celebrate and lead in paying homage to the Patroness.
The annual Healing Mass on August 13 will be presided by no less than the healing priest Fr. Fernando Suarez.
On that same day, the City Officials of Makati, sister city of Tanauan, are scheduled to arrive and join the Municipal Government of Tanauan in bringing joy to the Tanauananons.
The nightly activities which started on August 1 are the All Star Miyx Live of Tanauan National High School; Pasundayag Han Assumption Academy" with Live Band; Beyond Expectation; Variety Show; Mr. Body Shape; Revival of Songs and Dances; Classical Broadway: Disney; and SMB Night with Chris Lawrence.
Also among the nightly presentations are Search for Tanauan Pop Star 3; Icot Idol Solo and Band Talents; Little Ms. Tanauan on August 11; and Ms Tanauan 2009 on August 12; LGU Night with Moviestars; and Pepsi Night - Michael Jackson Dance Contest.
One of the most awaited event is the Pasaka Festival in the afternoon of August 14. This year's Pasaka Festival promises is even made more colorful with the participation of the Aliwan Festival Champion, the Buyugan Festival of Abuyog, Leyte; and the first runner up and second runner up in the just concluded Kasadyaan Festival of the province of Leyte, the Bato Balani of Bato, Leyte and the Kuratong Festival of Dulag, Leyte.
The Pasaka Festival of Tanauan is this year's grand champion of the Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals which earned it the right to represent the province in next year's Aliwan Festival in Manila. (PIA-8)
