A very clear manifestation of
how the partnership between the government and
the non-government organization will benefit
the community, will unfold in Tanauan, Leyte
on September 22, 2007.
The Rotary Club of Tacloban under the leadership
of President Nonong Triste has partnered with
the local government of Tanauan in order to
bring to the municipality the Camp Eye Project.
On September 13, during the weekly regular meeting
of the Rotary Club of Tacloban at the SMED Center
in Tacloban City, Past District Governor Roque
Tiu, the mayor of Tanauan, turned over to the
club, the amount of P20,000 which is the local
government's counterpart in the project.
The Rotary Club of Tacloban under the Community
Service Committee headed by Club Director Jean
Marechaux, will conduct on September 22, an
eye check up at the Tanauan Gym where 200 beneficiaries
will receive free eyeglasses.
Mayor Tiu said that the local government does
not mind putting up a counterpart for a project
which will benefit his constituents who cannot
afford to buy eyeglasses, much less to have
an eye check up from credible eye doctors.
He said that the eye patients will be screened
by the Municipal Health Office prior to the
Camp Eye Project date to ensure that only those
screened will go to the Municipal Gym. This
will also ensure that people will not be wasting
their time and money going and waiting in the
venue without assurance of being served, Mayor
Tiu said.
He expressed his gratitude to the officers and
members of the Rotary Club of Tacloban for choosing
Tanauan as one of the venues of their community
project.
The Rotary Club of Tacloban which is the oldest
Rotary club in Region 8 is composed of about
50 members coming from the different professions
and occupations.
It was learned that the same
activity is also set to be conducted in Tacloban
and in the municipality of Palo, but to date,
only the municipality of Tanauan has been finalized
and scheduled.
