up early morning of Saturday, September 15, 2007,
along the shorelines of Barangays Sta. Cruz, Magay,
San Roque, Sto. Niño, Cabuynan and Bislig. |
According
to Mayor Tiu, the officials and employees of the
local government of Tanauan has always spearheaded
the coastal clean up, annually, every September

This year, there is an observable
increase in the number of volunteers the Coastal
Clean Up which has already been institutionalized
in the municipality, Mayor Tiu informed.
The beach cleaners noted that there is a big
improvement in the cleanliness of the shorelines
every year. Even the Barangay Officials in the
area cannot help but also notice the big difference
and the beauty of their coastlines now.
Mayor Tiu said that the residents of the coastal
barangays have been made aware of the need to
clean up their surroundings, not only to preserve
and protect the environment and the health of
the people but especially now that skimboarding
enthusiasts who frequents the beaches of Tanauan
not only on weekends but everyday, are steadily
increasing in number.
Beach goers from other towns also frequent the
coastal barangays of the town to enjoy the clean
waters in the area. Resort owners in the area
who also noticed an increase in their revenues,
also help in educating the beachgoers to observe
cleanliness especially along the beach.
Mayor Tiu said he has always advocated the joining
of the municipality in the International Coastal
Clean Up because it is a very good way in inculcating
the spirit of volunteerism, unity and cooperation
among the town people.
This is aside from the
fact that it also educates the people the value
of cleanliness and environmental protection,
he added.
