Tanauan,
Leyte-- No less than the Our Lady of
Assuption Parish Priest, Msgr. Alex Opiniano and
the municipal Mayor of Tanauan, Atty. Roque Tiu,
welcomed the participants of the Leyte Architechtural
Heritage Tour conducted today in connection with
the National Heritage Month and Leyte Heritage
Festival celebrations. |
The
Leyte Architectural Heritage Tour participants
composed of about 40 Achitecture students and
members of the local media, who were escorted
by Mr. Bing Lumbre of the Department of Tourism
Region 8 and Mr.. Alegre, expressed interest in
the Church because of the successful blending
of the ancient and modern architechture.
Mr. Alegre said the glory of the past was preserved
and the introduction of modern architecture was
done in such a way that the Church became a melting
place of the old and the new, the past and the
current.
The participants were also treated to the town's
native delicacy, the sarongsong, which is uniquely
Tanauan. Mr. Alegre encouraged Mayor Tiu to make
the sarongsong commercial already because of its
great taste which other people will sure enjoy.
Mr. Alegre also expressed the group's appreciation
to Mayor Tiu for personally welcoming them, a
gesture which they did not expect as this was
not done by the local executives in the previous
tours.
After Tanauan, the group will proceed to Baybay
City and the Municipality of Hilongos, two of
Leyte's Architectural Heritage Sites.
The Leyte
Architechtural Heritage Tour is part of the Leyte
Heritage Festival which is in consonance with
the National Heritage Month celebration, which
will also feature grand performing arts night,
cultural activities and exhibits that include
that of the visual arts exhibit. (PIA8) |
